Adams County Fair

For getting perfect attendance this year, Monroe received a certificate in the mail for a wristband to ride rides at the Adams County Fair.  We chose to go on the day with the coolest temps.

It was also the day of the demo derby.  Neither Zach and I had ever been to one, and we thought the kids would really like it.

It was... different.  To us, it seemed to be the same thing over and over again, and it didn't keep the kids' attention at all.  I'm glad we experienced it, but I don't see us going back to one anytime soon.

Swimming Lessons

Pierce and Graham took swimming lessons for the first time this summer.  We did private lessons at Lochland, which were really good.  Jon did the two boys together, and we sometimes got in to help.  He was impressed with their comfort in the water and their willingness to do things like back float.

He also did one lesson with Monroe.  I wanted his opinion on whether or not she needed another year of lessons.  He thought she only needed to keep going if she was going to swim competitively.  Otherwise, he was comfortable with her swimming skills.

Golf Tournament

Zach played in his first Lochland golf tournament mid July.  It was the Member/Guest Tournament. He invited our brother-in-law, Rod, to come play with him.  While the guys played, Jess and her boys came to the pool with us.

That evening we took our kids to eat at the clubhouse.

After dinner, we were feeling a little full, so we walked home through the golf course.  It was gorgeous.

Zach and Rod did excellent in the tournament.  They got first place in their flight, winning $400.  This got them into Sunday afternoon's horse race, which was an all-flights hole-by-hole elimination.  Zach said this was nerve-wracking because there was a gallery of observers who hadn't qualified.  They played really well and made it down to the top three teams.  Had they gotten 2nd, they would have won another $400.  Zach and Rod loved the tournament and can't wait to play again next year.  We had a great weekend with the Schulz fam.

College Friends Visit

Over the fourth of July, some of our best friends from college came back to visit.  Tim and Janelle flew in from Atlanta and Danny, Nicole, and Reid came from Chicago.  It was time well-spent.

One night, the guys all came to our house and the girls went to Emily's.  I brought Dream Phone, a game I used to play in middle school.  We had the best time.

The next night, we went out.  Most of us had never done an escape room before.  We escaped, and we loved it.

Love these friends!  Thank you for coming to visit!
