New Kitchen

We have wanted a new kitchen since moving into our house eight years ago.  The kitchen plans have evolved a few times over the years.  The plans we finally committed to were designed by us with every finish picked by us.
before
The kitchen was a galley with orange oak cabinets, laminate counter tops, and laminate floors. The refrigerator was large and right in the middle of the room.

This bookshelf was bulky and not needed.

This pantry cabinet stuck out as much as the fridge.

This window opens to the sunroom.  We wanted it to be wider.

This was our previous cleaning closet.

This was a really tight spot leading to the garage, living room, and basement stairs.

The entryway and hallway had tile flooring and oak baseboards and doors.

We started demo on a three-day weekend.  We paid our kids to help.  Monroe unloaded and boxed up every cabinet.

The boys were actually able to help with quite a bit, and they enjoyed it.

The tile and laminate flooring came up really easily.

Demo done!
We hired a contractor who works by himself.  Since we didn't need any major electrical or plumbing changes, he was able to do all of the work.  We also did what we could to save time and money.  We did all of the demo, painting, hung the six new doors, changed out all the outlets and switches, replaced some can lighting, reconfigured the pantry, and hung and finished the trim.

We love the finished product!
after
I took all of the after shots at night, so there is no natural lighting.  The kitchen cabinets are a warm gray, which doesn't really show in these pictures.
Moving the refrigerator to this spot made a huge difference.

With the stove here, you can look all the way through.

The cleaning closet became the pantry with pull out shelves.

We don't miss the bookshelf

Angling this corner made this area feel so much roomier.

The doorway is wider

The window is wider and taller

My favorite part is the flooring.

I also love the greens we chose for the walls.  All of the new white trim and the old white columns pop against the green.

We didn't originally plan to replace all of the doors and trim in the hallway.  However, since we were replacing the flooring and baseboards, it made sense to do the doors and trim at the same time.

I love the quartz and the backsplash.

a new painting I found and love

Our goal with this remodel was to get a bigger, brighter kitchen in the exact same spot as the old kitchen.  We achieved just that, and we love the end result.  It feels good to know we did all of the design and a good chunk of the work.
We love our new kitchen and whole upstairs!
