What you are looking at is Zach's Nelnet loan that previously had a balance of $15,453.90. It now has a balance of $0.00. After teaching for Grand Island, a low socioeconomic district for five years, I had $5,000 of my college loans forgiven two years ago. Being a secondary math teacher in the same district, Zach had the opportunity to get up to $17,500.00 forgiven. We had to wait two more years to apply for the forgiveness. Zach turned in his paperwork months ago, and we found out yesterday that everything went through. After starting with $54,000.00 in college loans, we have less than $8,000.00 left. That feels great!
