Monroe told us back in September that she wanted to be Dorothy for Halloween and that she wanted a Wizard of Oz birthday party. It was a really fun theme to plan for.
Zach and I had so much fun decorating.
Our house landed on the Witch
Follow the yellow brick road
Twister
There were different things flying in the tornado like a woman knitting in a rocking chair, a cow, two men in a boat, a barn, and Almira Gulch.
Zach's aunt Julie collects Wizard of Oz memorabilia. She sent some things for us to display at the party.
Somewhere over the Rainbow
Each child took home a lollipop
The Wicked Ol' Witch is dead
The yellow brick road ended at the Emerald City
Zach drew both of these for me. I could never have done this.
This was also from Aunt Julie.
Zach's mom made Monroe's cake again, and she outdid herself this year! It was absolutely amazing!
For food we had Lions and tigers and bears, yellow bricks, tornadoes, sand"witches" and rainbow fruit.
Monroe requested that everyone dress up as Wizard of Oz characters, so we made it optional on the invitation. We were pleasantly surprised by how many people dressed up.
Zach and I were Auntie Em and Uncle Henry since they were Monroe's parents.
Two Auntie Ems
The lollipop Guild and the fortune teller
Grandma Linda had rainbow eye lashes
The good witch, the wicked witch, and a scarecrow
Rawr!
These were some of the most original costumes. Nathan and Kyndell were the yellow brick road, and my mom was the tornado. So creative!
We got a picture of everyone who dressed up.
Dortothy and her three best friends
There has never been nice weather for Monroe's birthday party, so I planned some games for the kids and adults. I sent the kids on a treasure hunt around the house. While they did this, the adults answered trivia questions that I wrote about the movie.
Our new trampoline was a huge hit.
Another game I planned was melting the Wicked Witch. The kids squirted water at the picture Zach drew with washable marker. This game was a huge hit!
The melted witch
Our fabulous cake maker (once she was no longer a scarecrow)
Having cake
Kyndell and Nathan got Monroe a play wedding dress. It came with a veil and a bouquet. So cute!
Landon got Monroe a Beta fish. She loves him.
Grace wrapped Monroe's presents herself. She was so proud of them.
Her first umbrella
Our first bird feeder
And her own small plant
One last game was pin the heart on the tin man.
This is one of my favorite pictures of the day!
Jensen getting all dressed up :)
Using her new nail polish
Playing bride and loving it!
We had a perfect day with beautiful weather and great friends and family!
We love this special four-year-old in our lives.
