Big Boy Beds

The boys will be 3 in May.  We had planned to keep them in their cribs for quite a while longer. They were content and we didn't have any bedtime issues that we expected to have once we transitioned to big boy beds.  Then, a FB friend posted a set of bunk beds she had for sale.
The dimensions were perfect for our boys' room.  The bottom mattress sits on the floor, and the top mattress is at 40 inches, much shorter than a normal bunkbed.  We thought this would be a much safer option for two two-year-olds.  Plus, the price was great!

You can see in this picture how short it is.  Right now, the window and roof are black.  We plan to repaint them navy at some point.

The first night, we still had the cribs in the room as a back up plan.  They went down in the bunk beds fine and then cried and whimpered for their cribs.  We eventually moved them, and they fell asleep right away.  The next afternoon, we took down the cribs.  Graham cried, which made Mommy cry as well.  I could still pretend they were babies if they were in cribs.
Night two went great.
The boys love their beds.  They take turns each night sleeping on top, so it isn't a fight.  They have yet to ever get up or climb out.
Just like with potty training, all of my fears and reservations about transitioning, never panned out.  These boys just love to surprise us!

Now their room has so much more space for playing.

We can't believe Pierce and Graham are big enough for real beds, but we are so thankful they love them and sleep well!
