We drove to Lincoln for our Burkle Christmas Friday evening. It had sleeted and then was snowing, so it took us three hours to drive from Hastings. We were doing our food contest for supper. Josh, Megan, Kaiya, and Samara were the judges and the category was pasta. We had made our dish in Hastings and then left. Because it took us three hours, our pasta was dryer and less tasty than when we made it the first time. I didn't get a picture of any of the dishes, but I did get the contestants with their awards.
Zach made 11 Cheese Chicken Bacon Rigatoni
His trophy says, "You got last"
We made Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese with bbq pulled chicken and bacon crumbles
Our certificate awards us with coming in second to last.
My mom and dad made homemade noodles. They made a dessert pasta called Chocolate Rasperry Capellina. It was a very tight race, but they got second.
Jess and Rod won with Bacon Truffle Mac and Cheese.
Did you notice the theme? Apparently cheesy bacon pasta was the thing to make.
I love this family tradition! We have done it five years now, and we are fairly sure that all five families have won once. I think we will do this for many years to come.
Grandma brought cloth snowballs so the kids and adult kids had a snowball fight.
Grandpa read the Christmas story
Grandma made the three girls matching aprons--such a cool gift!
The boys got homemade Batman costumes
New glow-in-the-dark, princess high tops
My uncle had a musical instrument made for my mom 20 years ago. My mom passed it on to Megan because she is a music teacher.
Jess got Kaiya a makeup kit. I don't know who enjoyed playing beauty shop more.
The girls in matching PJs. We didn't get a picture of all five.
